Change

It’ll be worse than most times
like the Hindenburg curling
like a wilted flower as it
drops petals and screams
and bodies – worse
like a football
that is really your heart
thrown into the numbers
of a defender – worse
like the inability to be kind
to your most beloved
worse
like restless rats
in the walls at 3 am
worse
like an eight year
coma: ninety three to oh, 1
worse – like math:
whisky plus
cellphone plus ex
equals an uncomfortable morning
worse
like a friend
who insists you borrow
this great movie you’ve gotta see
worse
like the perspective of geologic time
upon the span of a man’s life
yeah
it’ll be worse than most times
when you can expect things to remain pretty much as they are
or change.
