Brained

Long past
a tiresome melancholy wrath
burrowed into marrow
a warren for worms
in which to fester
for centuries, millennia
enboned they bred
gray-pink slugs
finally birthed
pouring upwards to fill the skull
therein entwining, combining
to form the brain of man
that took the old bone in hand
dashed against the head
cleaved, spilling its reward of progress
